About

I'm Ryan. I'm also the client.

I've coached for 15 years. I've been the heavy kid, the trainer who lost 50 pounds on the same plan I give clients, and lately the guy rebuilding after a torn pec and surgery. I post the whole thing, because the plan is the same either way.

Where this comes from.

I was a heavy kid, and I carried the weight into adulthood. What got me out was the basics, done consistently, long after they stopped being interesting. I know what it's like to feel uncomfortable in your body, and I know how it feels to take that back. That's why I do this.

I've competed in bodybuilding and powerlifting, and I've coached people from both ends of the spectrum. The clients I'm best for are the ones in the middle: smart, busy, worn out by advice that changes every week, and done with programs that only work if nothing else in life happens.

Outside the gym I travel, hike, read and shoot a bow. Fitness is meant to enrich your life, and I try to live that out loud.

The last two years

Coming back, in public.

In early 2025 I developed rhabdomyolysis from overtraining on too little sleep. I knew the principles. I wasn't applying them to myself.

I'm back to training, and I'm running the same system I run with clients: the four pillars, the targets, the weekly review. I post the plan, the numbers and the slow weeks on Instagram and YouTube. The only difference this time is that I'm the client.

  • Early 2025 Diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis. Training stops.
  • Late 2025 Cleared back to the gym. Weeks later, a torn pec.
  • Spring 2026 Surgery, then months of recovery.
  • Today Training the body I have now instead of the one I wish I still had. Same plan as my clients.

How I coach.

  • Adherence first. Days per week, session length and food get set from the week you really have, so you'll keep doing it.
  • We don't train through pain. Every big lift has a safer version ready.
  • Keep the muscle. Weight loss that costs you muscle is harder to keep off. Protein and lifting stay in the plan the whole way.
  • Six-week blocks. Training rotates through strength, muscle and conditioning phases so you keep progressing and there's always a next thing.
  • Plain answers. I read the research and tell you what it says in plain words, and I'll tell you when the answer is "it doesn't matter."
