Two-minute self-check

Which pillar is holding you back?

Eight questions about what you do on a normal week. The lowest score is where to start, and one change there does more than tightening the parts that already work.

1 I eat a real protein source at most meals.
2 I know roughly how many calories I eat on a normal day.
3 I do some kind of planned exercise at least two days a week.
4 I move around most of the day, not just during a workout.
5 I get at least seven hours of sleep most nights.
6 I go to bed at about the same time, weekends included.
7 After a meal that went over, my next meal is normal, and I don't wait for Monday.
8 My plan survives my busiest or most social week.

You'll get the pillar to start with, your score on all four, and the one thing to do about it this week.

Why only one pillar

When people decide to get in shape they change everything on the same Monday. A new diet, a new gym schedule, an earlier bedtime and no drinking, all at once. By Thursday one piece slips and the whole thing comes down with it. Fixing the weakest pillar first works because it's the one that's been undoing the others.
